Job Title:Senior Credit Risk Review OfficerLocation:ScottsdaleWhat you'll do:The position of Senior Credit Risk Review Officer is responsible for conducting credit file reviews including executing continuous loan review file testing and leading periodic targeted loan review engagements on the commercial loan portfolios of assigned reviewable units. The position is responsible for analyzing all types of credit information pertaining to the most complex types of loans and lending relationships and making judgments as to the appropriateness of certain credit processes including loan underwriting, monitoring, remedial management, and the assignment of accurate and timely risk grades. The position is also responsible for preparing workpapers and reviewing workpapers completed by team members participating in reviews; conducting exit meetings with minimal supervision and preparing and presenting reports to senior management. The role may also involve preparation of a variety of ad hoc departmental reports.

Credit Risk Review is an independent credit assurance and advisory team which reports functionally to the Risk Committee of the Board of Directors and administratively to the Chief Risk Officer. The team's mission is to help collaboratively ensure the financial soundness of Western Alliance Bank by independently identifying, assessing, and escalating credit risk to the Board of Directors, banking regulators, and other key stakeholders.What we are looking for: Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reviews all pertinent credit and financial information, including business and personal financial statements, spreadsheets, cash flow analyses, and other sources, as applicable. Properly assess borrower risk profiles and risk grades of each loan/lending relationship reviewed. Capable of analyzing the most complex and interlocking lending relationships.
  • Performs proper risk-based sampling techniques for scoping targeted and continuous reviews; determines the need for expanding scope and adjusting exam procedures, as appropriate.
  • Leads continuous and targeted loan review engagements within budgeted hours and required timeframes.
  • Guides less experienced reviewers in determining the accuracy of assigned risk ratings, and analyzing borrower risk attributes and risk factors. Reviews work papers of other Credit Risk Review Officers assigned to reviews under her/his lead.
  • Analyzes loan reporting and tracking systems and prepares appropriate comments within Credit Risk Review reports.
  • Properly evaluates changes or weaknesses within Credit Administration processes or policies.
  • Maintains a strong working knowledge of a variety of industries and specialty lines of business (e.g., commercial real estate, equipment leasing, mortgage warehouse lending, gaming, technology, life sciences, HOA, franchise lending, sponsor finance, leveraged lending, etc.).
  • Analyzes credit quality trends of the loan portfolios of assigned reviewable units.
  • Demonstrates an excellent knowledge of regulatory requirements and expectations pertaining to credit risk management.
  • Assists in performance and completion of special projects as may be assigned on an ad hoc basis.Education, Previous Work Experience, and Other RequirementsFour-year Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Arts degree (Accounting, Business Management, Finance, or similar): RequiredBanking and Financial Services-Knowledge and Skills typically resulting from a minimum of five years' related experience: RequiredGeneral Commercial Lending-Knowledge and Skills typically resulting from a minimum of five years' related experience: RequiredLoan Review or Regulatory experience more than one to three years: PreferredOther Education: Master's degree or advanced course of study (non-degree): PreferredLittle or no previous employee supervisory experience (direct or indirect): AcceptableSpecific Knowledge and Skills Sets (Required):
    • Advanced working knowledge of accounting, financial statements and tax returns, and cash flow analyses, as well as a highly refined ability to make insightful comments relating to a borrower's current and prospective credit risk profile.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required. -
    • Ability to understand business and industry concepts in order to develop and suggest intelligent, viable solutions to problems.
    • Excellent knowledge of lending regulations and credit policies.
    • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, interpret complex documents, understand procedures, write reports, correspondence and procedures, and speak clearly to lenders, management and employees.
    • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions and communicate issues through written reports, verbal discussions, and presentations.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.Other Important Candidate Requirements (Required):

      • Ability to travel regionally on an occasional basis.
