Job Summary

• Oversight and supervision of pharmaceutical purchasing staff and coordination of purchasing activities for the Pharmacy Enterprise. Lead contracting efforts to: Evaluate and negotiate contracts related to pharmaceutical cost, distribution, technology, and automation. Optimization of contract compliance through evaluation and audit of wholesaler pricing systems. Ensure systematic and timely audit of GPO contract changes to ensure accurate and timely pricing updates. Leverage contracting relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers to achieve improved cost of goods. Manage purchasing activities to ensure timely and efficient coordination with appropriate committees (P&T, AMb P&T, Pharmacy Operations, etc) to support prescribing and distribution processes. Manage outsourced pharmacy purchasing.
  
  • Establish and monitor inventory tracking systems for all products to ensure product availability and supply integrity. Oversee and audit manual and computerized inventory systems for the transfer of product, maintenance of item master files, and perform quality control of system output records. Oversee and audit medication inventory systems to ensure inventories are stocked to meet the needs of patient care while minimizing costs, out dates and to promote efficiency. Manage high cost/low use inventory stocking processes to reduce cost and coordinate inventory across all sites of utilization. Support inpatient and outpatient controlled substance distribution systems. Manage reverse distribution procedures throughout the health-system and monitor returns to ensure adequate credit is issued. Lead annual inventory counts in coordination with Internal Audit Department. Manage new or alternative product intake and the bar code validation process for EHR and automation systems. Lead influenza vaccine purchasing, distribution, and inventory maintenance for the health-system.
    
    • Monitor local and national drug shortages and implement tactics to maintain supplies. Monitor critically short items and the emergency medication supply. Provide supply chain expertise to Drug Policy Program to mitigate drug shortages and work with pharmacy managers to implement necessary changes to purchasing and automation systems. Work with clinical staff to determine alternatives to critical stock shortages and assist with determining and implementing therapeutic substitutions. Work with Central Supply Purchasing for fluid or other medication related shortages. Serve as the account manager for the electronic drug recall system (RASMAS). Manage the drug recall system, ensuring all affected product is identified, quarantined and returned for manufacturer credit. Serve as a liaison to wholesalers and vendors for issues related to contract prices, performance, fill rates, contract compliance, and supply adherence. Evaluate FDA licensing and/or regulatory certification is performed on all authorized pharmaceutical suppliers. Represent the health-system on the GPO committees.
      
      • Formulates departmental policy and procedure; ensures adherence to hospital, health system and departmental policies and procedures and applicable state and federal. Develops, evaluates and revises departmental policies and procedures while staying within budgetary and resource limits. Enforces health system and hospital's departmental policies and procedures and ensures compliance with pertinent state and federal laws and regulations. Monitors and controls the controlled drug distribution system ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
        JOB QUALIFICATIONS
        Education
        • Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy Required
        • Master's Degree MHA/MBA/MFA/MSHSP Required
          Experience
          • 10 years Pharmacy practice experience Required
          • 5 years leadership/management experience in pharmacy practice or managed care Required
            Licenses and Certifications
            • Registered Pharmacist (RPh) Current and in good standing license and issued by the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy 90 Days Required
