        Job Summary

        The Student Services Manager plans, manages, and oversees the daily operations and services of the Academic Advisement Center. Specific responsibilities include: supervising, focusing, supporting, and evaluating the work of an approximately 15 person advising team; serving as an expert resource to advisors to assist them in executing their work; training current and new team members; developing effective and high-quality strategies, resources, and business processes informed by NACADA best practices; developing and guiding the team through the implementation and execution of MCCCD and/or SCC strategic initiatives (i.e., 4DX, Guided Pathways) and other organizational changes; monitoring operational compliance with policies and regulations; resolving escalated student issues and/or concerns; collaborates with other student affairs units and faculty to further advising's role in the student experience; and collecting, interpreting, and reporting data.

        Essential Functions

        40% - Plans, organizes, assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of the Student Services Analysts (12) and Student Services Specialists (1) within the Academic Advisement Center. Communicates and ensures adherence to departmental expectations. Provides coaching and skill development for employee success. Plans, manages and oversees the implementation of daily advising office functions. Serves as a resource to advisors for daily advising questions and provides timely support to ensure that services are high-quality, efficient and effective. Implements the vision and measurable milestones of the Guided Pathways advising framework.

        30% - Develops and implements strategies and processes informed by NACADA best practices to deliver daily advising services for all advisors. Maps business processes, creates training documents and /or instructional videos, onboards new staff, provides ongoing training and monitors performance to ensure excellence in service delivery. Implements and monitors strategies for 1) the use of case management software, 2) adopting strategic enrollment management initiatives, and 3) accomplishing unit student learning outcomes.

        15% - Researches, analyzes, interprets, and evaluates program and industry trends, program data, and related regulations; implements program and operational changes related to strategic plans Monitors operational compliance with policies and regulations. Directs and oversees the resolution of escalated issues. Addresses student concerns with academic advising policies, regulations, and decisions. Serves as a representative and coordinates collaborative efforts with other student affairs units and faculty. Participates in strategic planning and decision-making. Develops, recommends, and implements policies, goals, and guidelines

        10% - Monitors and oversees the administration of reporting systems and enhancements; reviews and approves reports. Plans and oversees the development and dissemination of program communications and promotional and educational materials. Serves as primary P-Card Reviewer for the unit.

        5% - Performs other duties as assigned

        Minimum Qualifications

        Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, sociology, business administration or related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible student services or related experience that includes such things as administration of policies and procedures, program oversight and two (2) years of supervisory experience.

        OR

        Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, sociology, business administration or related field and seven (7) years of progressively responsible student services or related experience that includes such things as administration of policies and procedures, program oversight and two (2) years of supervisory experience.

        OR

        High School Diploma and nin (9) years of progressively responsible student services or related experience that includes such things as administration of policies and procedures, program oversight and two (2) years of supervisory experience.

        Desired Qualifications
      • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
      • Three (3) or more years of experience working in a higher education student services support area (i.e., Academic Advising, Admissions, Transfer Services, Career Services, or New Student Orientation).
      • Two (2) or more years of experience working specifically within a higher education academic advising role in a community college.
      • Three (3) or more years of experience training, supervising, and coaching professional staff.
      • Demonstrated experience monitoring project execution, benchmarks and outcomes, and using data to summarize results and recommend improvements.
      • Demonstrated experience building, developing, and leveraging partnerships with other departments.
      • Demonstrated experience problem solving and leading others to finding solutions.

        Special Working Conditions
        • Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense.
        • Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations.
        • May be required to work evenings and weekends.
        • May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen.
        • May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
        • This position requires a physical presence on campus with possible partial remote work depending on business needs to best serve the students, department and college.
