Group is currently seeking for an outpatient Optometrist in the
delivery of patient care to the Indian Health Service. - -Work
Schedule:Tour of Duty: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through
Wednesday; and Fridays. 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm; Thursday, Thirty-six
(36) hours per week. Overtime hours after 5:00 pm; Candidate may be
subject to working longer hours if patient load demands are present
in the Optometry Department.Duties: The Candidate shall provide
professional medical services or direct patient care services.
Appropriate and timely medical services in accordance with the
standards of care established by recognized medical care
organizations and in accordance with the policies and procedures of
Service Unit's Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules & Regulations,
including attendance at department and medical staff meetings.The
Candidate shall independently provide direct eye care services to
patients in a responsible, respectful and caring manner.
Professional duties include diagnosis
of visual and ocular problems through external and internal
physical examination of the eye and adnexa; detection of
neuromuscular impairment or anomalies of binocular function,
treatment of visual disorders through prescription of corrective
lenses and pharmacological means.Treats unusual and/or complex
visual and ocular disorders through the application of advanced
optometric techniques.Utilizes laboratory and radiology services to
evaluate ophthalmic and related systemic conditions.Uses all forms
of topical and ophthalmic therapeutic medications, including oral
therapeutic medications to manage pathology and trauma.Performs
minor surgical procedures including, but not limited to, anterior
segment foreign body removal, corneal debridement and suture
removal.Provides emergency eye care services on an outpatient
basis, including diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic trauma and
pathology consistent with hospital clinical privileges.Receives
referrals from other health care professionals within the health
center for specialty consultation and management of ocular disease
and coordinates medical eye care with other physicians as
appropriate.Direct optometric technicians to assist in the clinical
examination as appropriate.Provide appropriate documentation on
rendered patient care utilizing the electronic health record (EHR)
system. The Candidate is responsible for utilizing the EHR system
to obtain, dictate, electronically enter and assure preparation of
appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the
accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed
to provide comprehensive medical care. Clinical data reports shall
be completed in a timely manner and shall be maintained in
compliance with Joint Commission (JC) standards.Will consult with
Service Unit Optometrists as necessary for guidance on Service Unit
treatment, referral protocols and/or complex cases.Assists the
Chief of Optometry in other administrative duties as
assigned.Communicate with Pinon Health Center Health System
Administrator & Chief Medical Officer when appropriate.The
Candidate shall be familiar with the cultural, social, political,
geographic, demographic, economic, and epidemiological
characteristic of the patients and the communities served.Work
Flexibility. The Candidate shall rotate into other duty sections as
needed to support patient care. -General Requirements:
The Candidate shall provide three
current letters of reference from other health care providers
familiar with the Candidate's clinical practice skills within the
same discipline.One letter must be from the Chief of Staff/Medical
Director or Immediate Supervisor at the hospital in which the
Candidate either holds or last held staff privileges. If the
Candidate has just completed a residency program, one of the
letters shall be from the program director or service chief. - - -
- -Certifications and Licenses:Training/Experience. The Candidate
shall have completed an accredited Optometry Residency Program with
a minimum of six months experience in the specialty. There must be
no lapse of services of no more than six (6) months prior to
beginning tour of duty with Chinle Service Unit - Pinon Health
Center. -Certification/License/Registration. The Candidate shall be
board-eligible or board-certified with the National Board of
Examiners in Optometry and shall possess a current, valid,
unrestricted license in any state, the District of Columbia, the
Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States,
If the Candidate is asked to perform outside the normal training
parameters of his/her specialty, then the Candidate shall provide
certification of hospital privileges.
Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
License.The Candidate shall maintain a valid and current
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Basic Life Support (BLS)
certifications and are mandatory.Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
If required by the position, the Candidate shall possess a valid
state driver's license.Health Requirements/Conditions of
Employment: Medical Evaluation. The Candidate shall provide a
fitness for duty certificate issued by a licensed physician to
perform the proposed job. -Immunization: The Candidate shall
provide documentation as evidence of immunization as required by
NAIHS immunization policy for the following:Hepatitis A - Two dose
series at zero and six months.Hepatitis B - Three dose series at
zero, one, and six months or documented immunity. A signed
declination of Hepatitis B vaccination series will be accepted. - -
- - - - - - - - -Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - Two doses or titer
documentation. Varicella (chickenpox) - Two doses, titer
documentation or history of varicella/shingles. Tetanus,
diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap/Td) - one dose of Tdap, then tetanus
(Td) booster every 10 years thereafter.Meningococcal - Two vaccines
(MenACWY and MenB) recommended for microbiologists routinely
exposed to N. meningitidis. -Language Requirements and Cultural
Awareness. The candidate shall read, understand, speak, and write
English to effectively communicate with patients and other health
care workers, and shall be respectful of the local, American Indian
