Job Title: Neuro ICU Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Neuro ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 hours Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience required License: License required for submission Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Must have Level 1 trauma experience Must have EVD experience 6 months of travel experience required Strong neuro assessment skills and ICP monitoring experience Description: The Neuro ICU unit consists of 32 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2. All RNs will be expected to complete skills assessments, including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes. Nurses must be competent in maintaining a sterile field as this is a frequent nursing skill performed. Candidates indicating lack of competence in these areas may not be a good fit. Nurses will also receive education on lifts, restraints, and wound care. Common diagnoses include patients qualifying for critical care with neurological conditions. The facility conducts cranial surgeries, brain tumor removals and ablations, brain biopsies, complicated spine surgeries, and scoliosis repairs. Floating between ICU floors and tele units is required, with a patient load of 4:1 on tele. Cancellation policy allows the facility to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting is performed using the Cerner system.
