Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Telemetry Float Pool Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: BSN Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Ability to titrate cardiac drips Description: Travelers must pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to signing the contract. Travelers have a maximum of two attempts to pass the exam within 48 hours of the offer. Failure to pass the exam results in being sent home and designated as a do not utilize for six months. There is a pass/fail simulation lab on the first day of orientation. Failure in the simulation lab results in being sent home and designated as a do not utilize for six months. Floating between all telemetry and medical-surgical units is required. Depending on skill level, nurses may float to ICU and various holding areas. Notification of campus and unit will be given 1.5 hours before shift start. Floating to different units mid-shift can occur. Rarely, floating to another campus within a single shift is possible. Nurses must clock out when leaving one campus and clock in upon arrival at another. Ratios for patients are typically 1:3-4. Charge nurses do not take patient assignments. Patient care technicians are available at a ratio of 1 per 16 patients. Scrubs are navy blue. Common diagnoses include post-cath lab, post-vascular procedures, and general telemetry. No pediatric patients are included; patients must be 15 years or older. This position includes working every other weekend and two of three major holidays.
