Under general supervision, compiles and processes full-cycle,
multi-state, high-volume weekly payroll in accordance with Company
standards and procedures and applicable federal, state and local
regulations. Maintains accurate payroll records and related
documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Compiles and processes all weekly payroll data for multiple
states in a timely and accurate manner; including gathering and
reviewing all paid hours prior to processing payroll through time
and attendance system.
- Processes changes affecting payroll including, but not limited
to, tax withholdings, direct deposit information, tire, wheel and
clothing charges within the Human Capital Management (HCM)
system.
- Processes adjustments to pay changes, tax changes, benefit
changes and direct deposit changes within the HCM system.
- Prepares bonus checks under the guidance of payroll
management.
- Verifies gifts and/or bonus amounts.
- Reviews wages and other payroll information for accuracy,
researches discrepancies and corrects errors.
- Prepares final checks.
- Compiles and analyzes audits, including, but not limited to,
periodic hour reports, earnings, taxes, deductions and electronic
timecards; provides input for new and/or revised audits.
- Researches, troubleshoots and resolves uncashed paychecks,
deductions and other payroll related matters.
- Serves as a liaison to banks when stopping payments, tracking
direct deposits and processing bank exceptions.
- Communicates with stores and regions regarding payroll
adjustments.
- Evaluates escalated issues for resolution or the need for
further review; takes necessary action.
- Ensures accurate electronic and paper payroll files and other
record keeping is maintained.
- Ensures the proper and timely distribution of paychecks.
- Participates in issuing annual W-2 documents and provides
duplicates as requested.
- Researches quarterly and annual tax exceptions, identifies
additional audit opportunities.
- Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and regulations
affecting payroll; ensures practices, procedures and reporting are
in compliance.
- Coaches and mentors Payroll Specialist I.
- Stays current on the latest industry technologies, trends and
strategies.
- Assists employees, vendors and customers by answering questions
related to payroll.
- Completes work in a timely and accurate manner while providing
exceptional customer service.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- This position requires a minimum of five years progressive
in-house payroll experience, including experience with multi-state
payroll.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and
Excel is required.
- Workday or other HCM system experience is required.
- Kronos or other time and attendance system experience is
required.
- Excellent collaboration and relationship building skills are
required.
- The ability to work efficiently under pressure, accurately meet
deadlines, present a professional demeanor and work well
independently is essential.
- Must be able to clearly communicate both verbally and in
writing.
- Customer service skills including the ability to manage and
respond to different customer situations while maintaining a
positive and friendly attitude is essential.
- Proven ability to motivate self and others is necessary.
- The ability to work within a team and serve as a trusted expert
for assigned duties is crucial. Strong attention to detail with
proven mathematical skills is crucial.
- In addition, troubleshooting, organizational and problem
solving skills with a can-do attitude and the ability to adjust to
changing requirements are essential.
- Maintaining confidentiality, treating others with respect and
upholding Company values is key.
Education Requirements:
This position requires a high school diploma or GED. Additional
college level accounting or business-related classes are
preferred.
