This role is for the Ancillary division of Alterity Broker
Solutions, an Ancillary Benefits general agency that helps brokers
outsource all or part of their Ancillary process. Alterity is
looking for a Senior Consultant with a strong Ancillary Benefits
Underwriting background (carrier experience preferred) to handle
experience rated cases and develop the Underwriting unit within the
About the Position:
This is a full-time position, requiring the Senior Consultant to
interact with brokers, carriers, team members and in some cases,
clients and develop relationships with each of these segments as
necessary. The Consultant will research, analyze, and evaluate
options in order to deliver the outputs for all aspects of the
scope of work for broker engagements. Additionally, this role
requires the employee to provide strong support to the Managing
Consultant and Operations Manager, as well as other team leaders on
a given client/project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as the subject matter expert in terms of Ancillary Benefits
and vendor/carrier products and services. This includes Dental,
Vision, Life, Disability, Worksite and Leave Management.
Prepare and execute Ancillary Benefit RFP’s including
experience/claims analyses, renewal projections/negotiations, plan
design comparisons/recommendations and overall Ancillary Benefits
Deliver solutions that reflect industry insight and an
intimate understanding of the Ancillary Benefits industry.
Ensure that projects are delivered on time, on budget, and
within Alterity quality standards.
Anticipate broker, carrier and client needs and reactions to
issues and work to address them proactively.
Draft project plans and oversee execution.
Devise negotiation plans and manage the negotiation process
with brokers, carriers and clients.
Develop customized solution recommendation reports based on
the outcomes of strategic analyses.
Provide input on contract terms and conditions.
Manage activities with brokers, carriers and clients as
Effectively delegate projects to Associate Consultants, review
their work products, and provide direct feedback.
Provide Associate Consultants with mentorship.
Partner with senior leadership in developing pursuit strategies
for new business, supporting the proposal and sales processes

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities
In depth knowledge of Ancillary Benefits and the Underwriting
philosophies that drive pricing on the carrier side.
General knowledge of the benefits industry as a whole including
medical, benefits administration, industry trends, carrier products
Ability to work independently and anticipate client and team
Demonstration of project management and consulting skills
Effective time management and decision making skills
Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral
Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
Education and/or Experience:
Four Year college or university degree preferred.
3-5+ years of Ancillary Benefits Underwriting experience
Certificates, Licenses, Registration:
Life, Accident and Health License required
