A hostess or host greets customers as they enter a restaurant,
takes their reservation or puts them on a waiting list, gives them
menus and shows them to their seat. They may also handle phone
calls and customer queries about the restaurant and menu, and
assist various restaurant staff when necessary.
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet guests in a friendly and inviting manner
- Engage in friendly conversation as you seat guests in a timely
- Introduce guests to their server
- Manage restaurant waiting list during high volume to accurately
set guest expectations
- Clear, clean and reset tables to ensure they are ready for the
next guest as needed to assist Bussers
- Sincerely thanking guests as they leave and inviting them to
- Complete additional tasks as assigned
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able
to lift or reach arms over head or below waist. Must be able to
hold or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
Must be able to work in well-lit or dimly lit areas. Must be
able to work in moderately to extremely noisy areas. Must be able
to work in various temperature settings or areas, such as
temperature-controlled walk-in freezers, indoor areas exposed to
outdoor weather conditions, or outdoor areas. Possess the ability
to work in a fast-paced environment.
High School graduate or equivalent preferred. Previous
restaurant hosting experience preferred. Previous customer service,
retail sales, or food service/hospitality experience preferred.
PERSONALITY / OTHER
Must be confident and a great communicator with the ability to
communicate in English, as well as oral and written communication
skills. Must have a sense of urgency, ability to prioritize
quickly, manage time effectively, and efficiently work under
pressure/deadlines. Must be able to work varied shifts to include
days, nights, weekends and holidays. Must present well to others in
a positive and professional manner both internally and externally.
Must be 18 years of age or older. Must possess and maintain a valid
Food Handlers Certificate. Obtain any required alcohol service
licensing requirements in ordinance with state liquor laws.
