Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related specialized area or field is required, plus a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Department of Defense Secret security clearance is not required at time of hire. Candidates should be able to obtain a Secret clearance. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.Responsibilities for this PositionJob Description:General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Hardware Development Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems in the area of software defined wireless communications in support of our national defense. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:Electrical design of microprocessor based digital systems. Especially design experience with the following: Latest generation of ARM processors and microcontrollers. DDR memory interface design experience. Knowledge of I2C, SPI, SDIO, and other digital interfaces used by modern processors. Familiarity with schematic capture and layout tools is required. Experience with Mentor Graphics Xpedition is highly desired. Analog design, or RF experience is desired, but not required.Contributes to electrical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. timing, power, etc.), interface analysis and definition for the design, integration and verification of electrical components, equipment and systems for major programs and projects containing substantial, complex electrical contentSubstantial contribution to the generation and maintenance of electrical work products (i.e. plans, specifications, design documentation, etc.) used for internal consumption and/or deliverable to external customersDevelops and presents electrical requirements, concepts, designs, decisions and results to internal management, other organizations, team mates and external customersProvides substantial contributions to technical subcontract management that may include SOW development, proposal evaluation, source selection, technical oversight, and subcontractor work product evaluation and acceptanceActive participant in electrical reviews of electrical components, equipment and systemsEvaluates vendor capability to support product developmentApplies a strong understanding of the organizationally defined electrical processes throughout the lifecycle of the program or projectParticipation in the improvement of the electrical organizational processesSupports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycleSelects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliabilityGenerally works on diverse range of complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity without appreciable directionGenerally has regular contact with project leaders and Program Managers and Senior Managers including external customersKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Schematic capture of electrical designsLayout of PWB/PCBsDesigning with modern ARM based microprocessors and microcontrollersExperience with Mentor tool suite for circuit card design, layout, and analysis/simulation desired, but not requiredFamiliar with Hyperlynx for high speed digital simulation desired, but not requiredExperienced in design for manufacturabilityComponent level electronic design and circuit analysisUse of standard electronic design verification test equipment (Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, etc.)Coordinate design of embedded systems with software engineersEvaluates vendor capability to support product developmentStrong use and understanding of electrical engineering concepts, principles, and theoriesFrequently contributes to the development of new theories and methodsStrong understanding of electrical engineering processesAware of business objective and Engineering role in achievingStrong proficiency in Microsoft Office applicationsStrong written and verbal communications skillsAbility to think creativelyAbility to multi-taskHighly skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actionsAbility to recognize and clearly report information relevant to sound electrical engineering designTravel may be requiredGrasps and applies new information quicklyStrong ability to handle more complex problemsShows initiative on assignments, exercises strong independent judgmentPREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or EquivalentCompany OverviewGeneral Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) engineers a diverse portfolio of high technology solutions, products and services that enable customers to successfully execute missions across all domains of operation.
