RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The Energetics Development Scientist must develop and apply knowledge of energetic materials to safely conduct experiments on propellants, pyrotechnics, and explosives to meet objectives.
• Must provide Energetic Materials Manufacturing support to ensure safe and accurate production of propellant.
• Must serve as a principal investigator of production and development projects to include white paper, scope of work generation, bid and proposal, execution, and project management.
• Must serve as a subject matter expert resource supporting energetic material production across all NDS plants.
• Must review results of experiments and analyses performed by other scientists or technicians.
• Prepare technical reports detailing work progression and results.
• The Energetics Development Scientist must support technical proposals for the Research department, drawing input from both the Research Operations and PEP groups.
• Provide labor, equipment, and material estimates for Research scope of work as required to support production, IRAD, and contracted technology development projects.
• Must make presentations outlining/summarizing progress on selected projects and programs to both internal and external customers.
• Must provide training to technicians and peers as needed.
• Must wear safety equipment such as respirators or self-contained breathing apparatus.
  QUALIFICATIONS:
  • The Energetics Development Scientist must have a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or related field.
  • Must have a minimum of 4 years work experience in engineering, material science, or manufacturing environment.
  • Must have experience in formulating, manufacturing, or testing of propellants, pyrotechnics or explosives.
  • Must have knowledge for design of experiment and data analysis.
  • The Energetics Development Scientist must have experience leading/managing projects.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in computers.
  • Must obtain BATF approval to engage in certain explosive operations.
  • Solid modeling/drafting and part/tool design experience is preferred.
