      Job Summary

      Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a full-time, Safety Analyst. This position plans, organizes and administers the campus occupational health and safety program. The Safety Coordinator provides instruction, conducts inspections, provides compliance reporting, and enforces safe workplace practices based on the Occupational Health and Safety Administration standards. This position coordinates storage and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and monitors/ensures that all automated external defibrillator (AED) stations and fire protection systems and first aid kits are operational/stocked.

      To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus, with the possibility of partial remote work depending on business needs.

      Essential Functions

      10% - Plans develops, implements and evaluates occupational health and safety program required by Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), OSHA and RCRA standards.

      10% - Conducts field inspections to identify hazards, and other risk factors to ensure safe work practices. Inspections may require the employee to adjust their schedule to observe employees who do not work a traditional shift. Inspections should identify training needs for the community. Prepares training materials and provides or arranges training for employees and records the training following applicable standards.

      10% - Conducts inspections of facilities and equipment to ensure proper operation and safety. These include commercial buildings, educational buildings, machinery, signage and storage spaces.

      10% - Conducts all necessary actions related to the proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials for campus in all departments including logs, and chain of custody records.

      10% - Act as liaison between any agency who comes on campus to inspect facilities, utilities, equipment or observe employee practices.

      10% - Ensures compliance with all fire life safety devices, programs and compliance for campus. This includes, ensuring all compliance records are documented, stored and available to officials when needed.

      Minimum Qualifications

      Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in occupational or environmental health, business or public administration or related field and two (2) years (full-time equivalent) of professional level safety, occupational or environmental health experience that includes planning, organizing and coordinating occupational safety and health programs.

      OR

      Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution in occupational or environmental health, business or public administration or related field and four (4) years (full-time equivalent) of professional level safety, occupational or environmental health experience that includes planning, organizing and coordinating occupational safety and health programs.

      OR

      High School Diploma/GED and six (6) years (full-time equivalent) of professional level safety, occupational or environmental health experience that includes planning, organizing and coordinating occupational safety and health programs.

      Desired Qualifications

      A. OSHA 30 Hour Training Certificate and OSHA Trainer Certificate.

      B. Three (3) years classroom and "hands-on" training on forklifts and elevated platforms (scissor lift).

      C. Three (3) years' experience developing and delivering training materials related to employee safety.

      D. Three (3) years' experience evaluating storage practices and preparing HAZMAT for disposal.

      E. Three (3) years' experience working in an industrial, commercial, large property or construction site as an inspector.

      Special Working Conditions

      • Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense
      • May be required to travel to all MCCCD locations
      • Will be required to work evenings and weekends
      • May require prolonged periods of sitting and viewing a computer screen
      • May be required to lift or carry up to 40 lbs.
      • This position requires a physical presence on campus with possible partial remote work depending on business needs to best serve the students, department and college.
      • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals
      • Climbing stairs and/or ladders to reach assigned areas along with working at heights.
      • Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions
      • Will be required to work in an area of light to heavy noise levels daily
